It sounds fun, doesn't it? Travel and work. It's also a current trend. Moreover, many people probably envision an ideal way of working that doesn't involve traveling by depleting savings accumulated in Japan, but rather one where traveling actually leads to income.

In fact, I myself work in a way that my income doesn't stop even when I travel. Precisely because I travel, I create jobs where I can demonstrate value, and I freely go wherever I please. When you hear this, some of you might have the image of a nomad, but it's a little different.

I think most nomads have special skills. Many people probably have skills like web designer, illustrator, graphic designer, etc., that allow them to take on work anywhere as long as there's internet.

However, with commissioned projects, you actually don't have much freedom with your time. What's more, even if the location is free, there are deadlines in the end, and all discretion is decided by the client. This makes it a bit too inconvenient as a source of income for traveling. The location might be free, but time cannot be made free so easily.

When traveling, there are times when there's no signal or you can't connect to the internet. Even in such situations, the work needs to be something that can fully leverage the fact that you are currently at a travel destination. In the form of a contract for services, you cannot truly enjoy the time and benefits that can only be gained precisely because you are at a travel destination.

What I practice is not contracting for services, but creating my own work. Furthermore, it's about thinking of jobs that can generate income precisely because I'm at a travel destination. It's not like a nomad who "just changed locations," but a way of life where traveling actually enhances the value of work, allowing one to live freely both in terms of time and finances. That is the ideal.

We call this way of working "Dice Work." Using the initials of "Destination Self-employment," it's DISE WORK. You could also call it a "travel destination business owner."

For now, I will share about four methods of Dice Work. From those who strongly desire to live abroad in the future to those who want to ensure their income doesn't stop while traveling, please use this as a reference.

Create work related to your travel destination and go abroad in the form of a business trip.

If it's difficult to directly start a business in the target country, first create work or projects related to your travel destination in Japan. Media or shopping sites, tourist information or travel agencies, study abroad agencies, content provision. Let's start a job you're interested in that's related to a country you're interested in. Of course, it's fine to operate as a sole proprietor; there's no need to forcibly register as a corporation.

As a result, since it's a Japanese business, you can enter foreign countries as a business trip, and a certain period of stay is also possible. The work you've started is highly related to the target country, so it might even be possible to provide better services by being on-site.

While you are in Japan, try to launch services or projects that will gain value precisely because you are going to that country. A period of 3 months is a guideline. If you are going to multiple countries or traveling around the world, then precisely because you are taking that trip, think about projects from the beginning that will grow and become profitable, and then embark on your journey.

Of course, you will go abroad in the form of a business trip, and the more you travel, the more your projects and work will grow and generate income. With this, it is possible to secure a proper income even while you are overseas. Services, products, businesses, and projects where travel directly leads to income. Please try to create them.

As a content creator, create revenue streams using all available tools such as advertising, YouTube, and affiliate marketing.

Build blogs and websites, create content, and generate revenue streams. The internet generation has an infrastructure in place that provides many revenue sources. If you provide valuable content yourself, it's an era where it will be returned to you as income.

Turn yourself into a media outlet and gain fans. While the quality and interestingness of the content are important, it also largely depends on who is sending it. Cherish and gather people who will receive your information, nurture them to create fans, and continuously disseminate content.

Write a blog, offer good products as an affiliate, or run ads. There are many other methods, but above all, create a situation where you can earn income by providing your own content. If you can create that situation, then 'overseas' and 'travel' themselves will fundamentally become very high-quality content.

Above all, focus on making people interested in your own endeavors and challenges. If more people become interested, every place in the world will quickly transform into a valuable place for work. This is because you can create high-quality content that you normally couldn't. Energize your community, create fans, and strengthen your own broadcasting power.

Rent a house at your travel destination and operate a private lodging service like Airbnb.

It depends on the country's laws. However, it is one realistic method. First, rent a property somewhere. There is no key money overseas, and there are many places where you can rent with low initial costs. You live there. At the same time, you open up empty rooms as Airbnb to attract guests. Your rent becomes free, and you can also engage in international exchange with people from various countries.

Also, many homes overseas come furnished, allowing you to start living immediately after moving in. You can start advertising from the day after you move in, and if successful, it could lead to a significant income. In fact, many people rent a house overseas, live there, and rent out their spare rooms.

However, it's uncertain whether guests will actually come after listing on Airbnb, and thorough preliminary research is necessary. If you're anxious, though it deviates slightly from the main point, operate by taking on commissioned projects, and in the meantime, create a system where you can do 'dice work' to move away from contract work. It might be good to consider that you can gradually transition from a regular nomad lifestyle.

Create work at your travel destination. Or even start a company.

This is for when you want to live overseas. Not for travel or a trip, but for permanent residence. I also did it once.

First, consider whether you can start some kind of business in that country. Utilizing the country's characteristics, you brainstorm ideas for jobs that can only be created overseas. The hurdles here are legal issues, starting with visas, but by researching each country, there are ways to clear them.

However, the hurdles are quite high. It's an area that's completely out of reach for someone suddenly transitioning from a salaried job. Also, thinking long-term is a prerequisite. It's tough unless you truly love that country and absolutely want to work there, or if you have the motivation to overcome difficulties and can enjoy the process. If simply earning income is enough, it would be better to avoid this path.

Honestly, it's quite enjoyable though. Of course, there are many difficulties. Since it's an overseas business, there are countless challenges that don't exist in Japan. Especially clearing legal issues will require a considerable amount of information, research, and effort. Nevertheless, if you truly love that place and have a desire to do something, you can enjoy even that process from the bottom of your heart.

Instead of a work style where you are dragged along by someone else's will, like a contract worker, you can create a job that allows you to freely and fully utilize the advantage of being in a 'travel destination'.

Furthermore, in the future, living a life where you work while traveling, or start a job at a travel destination, will likely become even more mainstream.

However, to perform 'Dice Work', there is only one essential skill: the ability to create work. If you cannot think for yourself and make things happen, you can never truly live freely, whether in Japan or overseas.

It's not about 'just acquiring a job that can be done anywhere in the world.' And 'a job that allows you to work anywhere in the world' won't necessarily make you free. What's important is a job whose value can be drawn out precisely because you are 'traveling,' and the ability to create the work itself. If you think more deeply, there are many jobs whose value can be generated 'precisely because you are at a travel destination'.

Please, everyone, think about it. And please try it. There are many jobs in the world that can be made more profitable by traveling. Surely, one of them will be something you can achieve. Don't think it's impossible; keep challenging yourself.
