I often used to think, 'I want to do a side job from home,' or 'I want to work from home.' So, I would often search on Yahoo or Google for things like 'work from home' and 'side job,' wondering what methods were out there.

However, when you search for side jobs to do from home, you don't find anything decent. They're not interesting, they're simple tasks, and they're so cheap that they don't make any money even when converted to an hourly wage. Doing such a side job endlessly just because it's from home doesn't boost motivation.

In fact, it's faster and more profitable to learn how to create work and make your own side job that you can do from home. You can even turn it into your main job. Many internet services are now widespread, so creating a side job from home is easy if you just know how.

So, how do you actually create your own side job? That's what I'm currently writing about in a separate blog post. While you wait for that, I'd like to summarize ways to earn income as a side job using existing internet services.

The content listed this time can also be good practice until you create your own side job. Why not try it as a work-from-home side job? In fact, if you can generate sales with any of the methods below, you'll probably be able to make a living without even having to go to the office.

Resale business like Mercari, Yahoo Auctions, etc.

Everyone. You're doing great. For those who are thinking of starting a side job or want to earn income from home, this is probably an easy place to start.

The process is simple. First, you procure items cheaply. Or, you can create your own products. Then, you sell them using services like Yahoo Auctions or Mercari. If the selling price is higher than the purchase price, that difference becomes your profit. Of course, this can be done from home, and many people are probably doing it as a side job.

Some people even take the approach of not procuring items at all, but instead listing products sold on Amazon, etc., at a slightly higher price on apps or services, and then immediately purchasing them and sending them to the customer once a purchase is made. With this method, you certainly don't bear inventory risk, but I personally don't like it much. It's just selling things you can buy cheaply at a higher price. It's a classic work-from-home side job, though.

There also seems to be a method called dropshipping, but I'm not very familiar with it, so if you're interested, you might want to search for it. My previous business partner seemed to have earned a lot from dropshipping.

Receiving projects through crowdsourcing services

When it comes to classic work-from-home side jobs, it's crowdsourcing. You receive work online and turn it into income. You can easily engage in sales activities with companies, and if you've acquired any professional skills, it's possible to earn hundreds of thousands of yen per month. I had acquired web production skills, so I earned over 1 million yen in about 4 months.

However, while there's a chance to make a decent living with a work-from-home side job, it's quite cheap if you don't have specialized skills. It's not worth the effort. In fact, even if you have specialized skills, most projects are low-priced, so people who are already working with sales teams or have existing projects don't bother with them.

I feel that people living in rural areas, who do it more as a main job than a side job from home, often use it when they don't have many sales opportunities. In my case, I was temporarily back at my parents' home, so I utilized it then. There were many really cheap projects, and I was afraid that even signing a contract wouldn't be worth the effort.

However, if you have special skills such as production skills and are looking to earn a little extra income as a side job, it can be done from home, so it might be a good option. However, since the price is low, you need to adjust your own effort and also get the client's approval.

Write a blog and earn income through affiliate marketing and AdSense ads.

Write a blog. Attract traffic. Monetize through ad revenue, affiliate marketing, YouTube, etc. In my opinion, if you research it thoroughly, it's the most effective side job you can do from home. How can you increase traffic? How can you increase ad revenue? The key is to research thoroughly and put it into practice.

However, this is limited to people who have a lot of patience and can build things up. How to attract traffic, how to proceed with monetization. It's important to analyze data and conduct thorough research.

Also, once a blog is written, it doesn't disappear from the internet. It's kept forever. So, basically, if you keep accumulating hundreds or thousands of articles, traffic will eventually increase. And you can monetize it. That means finding effective methods through your own experiments and verification, which will accelerate the process.

Once you acquire this know-how, you'll be able to undertake not just side jobs from home, but also corporate marketing and consulting. However, if you can monetize it yourself, you probably wouldn't bother with corporate consulting unless there's a specific reason.

Also, if you succeed, the classic path is to distribute newsletters and information like 'Anyone can do it! How to succeed with a side job from home' and charge for it. While there are many suspicious people, if you've truly achieved results yourself, it's legitimate know-how, so it will be recognized as reliable information.

New services like Street Academy and TimeTicket.

Recently, more and more services are emerging that allow individuals to earn income on their own. Utilizing these internet services is also a good idea.

First, Street Academy is a service that matches 'people who want to teach with people who want to learn.' By creating your own course and recruiting, people who want to take your course will join as students. If you hold the course at home, it's naturally a work-from-home setup, and teaching as a side job is also a good option.

By the way, last month I earned about 60,000 yen using Street Academy. If you have something you can teach, please give it a try.

And then there's TimeTicket. This is a site where you can buy and sell your time in 30-minute increments, listing what you can offer within that time as a product. People who want that time purchase it and receive the service. Since this can also be offered via Skype or online, I think it's good for side jobs from home.

What's interesting is that you don't even need skills. There are plenty of listings like 'Would you like to have tea with me?' or 'I'll tell you about my life,' and for some reason, many people buy them. It's a strange world.

CrowdWorks, a major crowdsourcing company, also seems to have started a skill buying and selling service, and more and more services that enable working from home and side jobs will continue to emerge. It's becoming an interesting world.

Summary

As you can see, there are various things you can do from home as a side job. Also, it's important to note that what I've compiled here are not tasks like piecework. When people think of side jobs, some might imagine simple tasks like piecework at home, but the items I've picked out above each have elements that lead to business.

You can actually generate income as a side job, and once you master it while working from home, you can also imbue yourself with significant social value. That's when you'll be able to live freely and flexibly.

Especially with blogs and affiliate marketing, which are methods of what marketing calls content marketing, if you achieve results here, you'll be in high demand everywhere.

While a side job from home that just earns a little extra cash is fine, if you're going to do it anyway, I think it's better to choose something that accumulates as value within yourself the more you do it. It's an era where you can earn a lot even from home. It would be good to work hard with the mindset that you'll eventually become independent with this, rather than just calling it a side job.
