[Part 2] Master the condition of “side business”! What is the business model that is advantageous precisely because it’s a side business?

Hello. This is Kamiyama.

Up until now, I've pursued businesses in 'import/export sales,' 'events,' 'web production,' and 'schools.'
However, where I get my main source of income is completely different.

Everyone, where do you think it is?

During my web production days, when I worked with other companies, I was creating websites using 'revenue share.'
Revenue share is a format where, instead of giving a discount, you receive a percentage of the sales as remuneration.

From the several routes and websites I built at that time, income is coming in as a source of revenue.
When you have skills, you can do things that are this profitable.

However, what I want to talk about this time is not about revenue share or technology.

What I want to convey the most is just one thing.
If you're going to work anyway, let's choose a way of working that allows you to build up, even if it's small.

For example, events, web production, and schools are like that, but basically, the income is one-off.
Once you receive money once, from then on, it will not become continuous income.

Certainly, the amount for one time might be large, but the effort and the amount received are equal.
If you don't move yourself, money won't come in, and to earn money, you have to put in effort.
In that case, ultimately, if you don't keep moving yourself, it won't become income.

A way of working where your effort and income are proportional is something you set up when you want money for some reason.
For example, when you raise funds for business expansion on your own.
Because monetization is also fast.

Think about it.

Basically, events, website production, and schools are all service industries.
In the service industry, you can basically get income within a few months at most, or even on the same day at the earliest.
And what's more, it amounts to a decent sum.
The service industry offers immediate cash and a certain amount of money.

However, it's a one-off; once you provide the service, it's over.
It won't become a continuous source of income later on.

On the other hand, what about the revenue share I just talked about?
Even after it's created, a percentage of the income comes in according to sales.

It's a system where you earn income even without actively working.
In my case, I sometimes offer advice and improvements to boost sales.

By the way, has anyone wondered why I can give advice on increasing sales, even though I've honed my skills as a website developer?

That's because when you do revenue sharing across multiple industries, a vast amount of know-how accumulates.
That's why I was able to start working as a website marketer and consultant.

The downside is that it doesn't generate much profit initially.
It takes time for it to actually turn into money.
Prices are often low, so steady accumulation is necessary.
Affiliate marketing and blog AdSense are similar.
Launching your own web service and attracting users is also like that.

Thus, there are two patterns for generating income.

  • Immediate-cash type: A pattern that has immediate profitability and can generate revenue quickly.
  • Accumulation type: A pattern where steady accumulation leads to continuous income.

I deliberately don't use terms like 'stock business' or 'flow business'. (lol)
Because I find it bothersome to get into discussions about definitions.
A business model where, once the system is built, you can earn stable income with relatively little effort.
The above is collectively referred to as the 'accumulation type'.

By the way, the basic principle of the accumulation type is to 'create and sell attractive products' and build a flow where they 'sell even if left unattended'.
It sounds a bit harsh, but if you don't sugarcoat it, this is what it comes down to.

People who generate stable income use these two working styles depending on the situation.
While generating immediate income in the service industry, they steadily build a system to acquire continuous income.
They create both current income and future income simultaneously.
By being conscious of these ways of generating income, you can earn income in the future without consistently expending effort.

What I think is great about side jobs is that you have stable income without having to set up an immediate-cash pattern yourself.
If you earn a moderate amount, taxes and insurance can increase, you might need to file a tax return, and unnecessary expenses and effort increase.
However, the company takes care of everything from pensions to insurance, and above all, there's no worry about dying.
While in such a stable position, you should steadily build an accumulation-type business.

Moreover, once you build an accumulation-type income source, you can do only the work you want to do.
Currently, I choose my clients and accept consulting or website creation work.
The criterion for judgment is whether it seems enjoyable or not.
It's enjoyable to be able to concentrate only on the work you truly want to focus on.

In the past, I used to desperately focus only on instant cash-generating models.
However, due to being too busy and having various expenses, I felt like it was a net zero.
After organizing and forming a company, I was finally liberated.
However, if I had continued to do only instant cash-generating models as an individual, I might have been ruined.
If you are going to pursue instant cash-generating models, by all means, aim for organization.

I believe many people reading this article are 'doing side jobs,' so I think few will consider organization.
If you are starting with a side job, please try to think about 'accumulative' businesses while you are still in a safe zone.
If you are employed, there's no need to think about instant cash.
While you are currently working, let's create accumulative income streams and upgrade your life.

By the way, when I talk about this, some people might think of network marketing.
Network marketing has no value the moment human relationships are restricted.
Because the 'reality' is that you'll be disliked the moment you say, 'What kind of work do you do?' 'It's network marketing.'
The system or perception doesn't matter; at that point, it's socially disadvantageous.
If you still want to do network marketing, try your best to change that reality.
