About Design and Development
There are not many teams or companies that can create strategic deliverables based on a deep understanding of marketing and business domains. Most of them simply research competitors' websites and apps, extract what measures they are taking, and converge on content that merely considers countermeasures. On the other hand, we, with our knowledge and insights gained from practicing business development, deeply understand businesses and know how to essentially organize information and design from that information.
By deeply understanding the business, understanding user feelings and thoughts, and grasping the entire marketing flow, we design websites that effectively convey information, bring out the business's appeal, and create highly effective websites.
Production Flow
Furthermore, to create websites that effectively convey information, we apply the "start small and iterate often" method, commonly used in business development, to web production and development. Therefore, the flow may differ slightly from the usual web production process. Specifically, we proceed with production as follows:
1. Interview
First, we conduct an interview regarding the purpose of creating the website this time. Then, we confirm the overall image and direction for the website. However, we do not produce exactly as per the client's interview. We merely inquire about the image; we fundamentally design the actual policy for how the website should be produced.
We meticulously design what information to include and what expression methods to use, incorporating user interviews and other methods, to plan a user-friendly website that easily conveys information. While we will make every effort to align with your desired direction, please understand that if research results suggest a different expression method or design is better, we will compare, test, and then rationally choose the best method.
2. Qualitative Research
We research the industry situation and users. We, as producers, cannot create an appropriate website without a thorough understanding of the industry. Utilizing interviews and observation methods, we investigate qualitative information such as how users in the target industry receive information and what information they seek. In this process, we may have the opportunity to speak with your employees and users. In such cases, we would appreciate your cooperation as much as possible.
Furthermore, depending on the situation, conducting direct interviews may be difficult. In such cases, there are methods like researching diverse information sources such as social networks and internet information to gain a deeper understanding of the industry, and then "publishing before fully developing" to directly analyze market reactions and build with an improvement-first mindset. We will propose the best research method for the situation and results each time.
3. Planning and Design
Once the research is complete and information is gathered, we proceed with the planning and design of the website. We conduct planning and design using extensive experience and knowledge, including sitemap and wireframe design, and design based on "information architecture," which focuses on how to make information easily discoverable. Whether it's a website or a web service, it is never built merely on intuition. Logical design and planning based on research are the keys to future success.
At this stage, by showing the wireframes to collaborators with as much user perspective as possible, we confirm what information is difficult to find, how to make information easier to find, and how best to create copy. The key is not to discuss only among insiders, but to have people outside the project members with a user perspective look at it. By actually seeing and trying it out, we design information that is more aligned with the user.
4. High-Fidelity Prototype Production
Once the design at the wireframe and sitemap stages is complete, we create the website for live publication. What's important here is that 'completion does not exist.' Any website or web service, 'everything that is published is in the process of improvement.' Even Facebook continues to improve, with its usage, layout, and design changing daily. This means that unless you publish, test, and gather information by having people actually use it, you won't know what's truly important to achieve results.
That's why we first create content that can be produced with as little time as possible. The pursuit of perfection comes after publication. For example, no matter how much insiders discuss 'this form might be good,' the final judgment rests with the users. Discussions without user involvement are meaningless. While we grasp user needs to some extent during the research process, it's common for all the discussions to turn out to be mere fantasies among members after spending a lot of time discussing and creating something, only to find out it wasn't what users wanted when it's released. Therefore, we create the initial website quickly, publish it, and then improve it, based on a small-start premise.
5. Closed Testing
Before opening the website, we first have multiple people with a user perspective use the website to check its usability. No matter how much internal team verification is done, true usability data cannot be confirmed. It's necessary to ensure that even people with no knowledge of website design can quickly find information.
First, we have multiple people use the website in a private state and perform certain tasks on it. Based on the information obtained, we make improvements to the website and update it for public release. It's important to gain information through actual use and be confident that users can achieve their goals.
6. Publication, Hypothesis Testing, and Improvement
Finally, it's time for publication. Let's publish the website we've built so far. However, this is not the end. In website production, every stage is a test. Whether it's a landing page, a corporate site, or a web service, what matters most is what happens after it's published.
While observing reactions after publication, we will improve the website further towards achieving goals. In addition to utilizing analytical tools, we will monitor ease of understanding in conjunction with marketing strategies, information transmission mechanisms, and user interviews, repeatedly verifying and improving whether objectives are continuously being met and how we can make further improvements in the future.
As is often said, a website should not be considered finished once it's built. What's crucial is how appropriately, logically, and qualitatively improvements are repeatedly made after publication. Subsequently, in terms of fees, we will transition to a monthly subscription model and enter the operational phase. Let's evolve together to aim for a higher-level website.
Developing In-house Web Strategists
There is no future for website and web service operations and design unless they are permanently monitored, maintained, and improved. Times are constantly changing, and with each change, approaches and user needs also change. To constantly monitor these changes and evolve a site, it is difficult to do everything through outsourcing. If you try to do everything through outsourcing, you will need an enormous budget.
So, what's the best approach? We understand that having in-house personnel acquire the skills to monitor sites and design strategies is the most efficient, effective, and low-cost method. Furthermore, during the actual development process, having knowledgeable individuals within the company who can discuss with the same knowledge and insights as those within the industry will undoubtedly lead to more constructive website production and development.
That is why we will generously share our knowledge and insights with the person in charge, fostering them as a web strategist so that they can lead discussions based on accurate knowledge. We will provide a brief knowledge-sharing session on web production and strategy at the beginning of each meeting, and we hope you will absorb it.
